During our February meeting at Alsace, we brought in books that we had been reading to show everyone (thumbs up OR down) and discussed the need for diversity in what we select as the “book of the month”.
Many area book clubs are struggling with the same selection issues we are, so we have decided to look past the massively marketed “book club” books in order to have more choices. The local library bookclubs at both Gulf Beaches and Gulfport have decided to read “non-bookclub” books themselves, so we seem to be on the correct path. We also decided to have a list of quirky categories to help make sure we don’t just read one type of book. We will develop this as we go into next month’s meeting.
